Fertilizer is a leading pollutant, causing algal blooms, fish kills, and dead zones. It is dangerous for humans and animals. In Florida, where rain is common, stormwater can wash the fertilizer into our natural water resources! This is especially dangerous in the summer, when rainy season occurs.
There are Florida bills pending that would actually stop local governments from prohibiting fertilizer use during the summer rainy season. These bills, backed by the fertilizer industry, would prevent local governments from protecting the waterways from harmful fertilizer. It's madness.
The laws are line item 146 in SB 2500
Bad Growth Bill (HB 359/SB 540)
Radioactive Roads Bill (HB 1191/SB 1258)
